Why Heat Load Calculations Beat Guesswork

Heat load calculation is the engineering process of determining how much heating and cooling capacity a space requires - room by room, based on construction, insulation, windows, orientation, and intended use.

Rule-of-thumb quoting uses generic kilowatts-per-square-metre tables. It ignores west-facing glazing, cathedral ceilings, poor insulation, and heat from appliances - all of which push actual load above generic estimates.

Oversized systems reach set temperature quickly then shut off, cycling repeatedly without properly dehumidifying. Occupants feel clammy in cooling mode. Undersized systems never reach comfort on design-day conditions.

Correct sizing also determines duct dimensions, grille selection, and outdoor unit placement. Errors at calculation stage cascade into noise complaints, hot spots, and efficiency loss that no amount of post-install tweaking fully fixes.

We perform on-site assessments and heat load calculations as standard for ducted and whole-home proposals - because the cost of getting sizing wrong exceeds the cost of doing the maths properly upfront.
