New Build HVAC Checklist

Engage your HVAC specialist early in the design phase - ideally before plans are locked. Ceiling heights, roof space, electrical capacity, and outdoor unit placement all affect system selection and duct routing. Changes after rough-in are expensive and disruptive.

Confirm rough-in schedules with your builder before plastering. Ducted systems need ceiling space for supply and return ducts, zone dampers, and adequate return air grilles. Split systems need refrigerant pipe routes, drain lines, and outdoor unit pads planned before cladding goes on.

Electrical requirements vary by system type. Ducted systems may need dedicated circuits; multi-head splits need outdoor isolators and adequate switchboard capacity. Your HVAC contractor should provide load schedules for the electrician during design development.

Outdoor unit location affects noise, efficiency, and compliance. Avoid placing condensers near bedroom windows or neighbouring boundaries without acoustic screening. Ensure adequate clearance for airflow and future service access.
